Getting my scrap on at the crop

I had a very productive time at the monthly EK Craft and Crop  and completed the pirate and circle lo  and them came home and completed the Beach Babe lo. These are all using photographs that used to be part of photo montages in clip frames. This was before I had ever heard of scrapping. The frames eventually fell apart and I had a pile of very random photos - none of which have dates or places on them and I have been racking my brain to remember exact details about them.
The Beach Babe lo used the UKS February Simple Recipe of citrus orange, fuschia pink, turquoise and red with mists and buttons. I misted a TH Resist page with orange/pink dylusions and then used blue/green on white to make the central panel. I punched flowers from the waste and added bling to their centres. The ribbon, flowers and button continue the colour theme.

The second page was made up of the blue/green card stock and then a page from my stash that was just too bright to use all together so I cut it up and used Heather's circle dies.

 The last page was for the weekly challenge and had to include red and black, stamping (Dylusions fab skull) and movement courtesy of a movable journalling tab. I borrowed the bunting punch and in a charity sale to raise money for Help the Heroes bought the scrabble tiles.

At the crop the lovely Heather made me think about journalling on los as she pointed out that in 100 years time (or less) people could look at the photos and have no idea about who, what, why, place etc so I am going to try and remember to include journalling on all my los in the future.

Extravagant Art Journal

Almost caught up with the prompts again. This time the theme was extravagance and I added some expensive ribbon and some very bling buttons from the ribbon girl.

I stamped the background with a shorthand text stamp from Paper Artsy and then that hair dying comb came in useful as I made white dots all over page.

I used Claudine Hellmuth's Dwelling stamp in purple acrylic and then stamped the second part of the stamp with embossing powder and silver pearl embossing powder. The journalling was written on black paper.

Serendipity came calling today in the form of Shimelle's challenges, a free kit from Owl Tree Studio and the fact that I needed to create the latest entry for the cj  called My Happy Place.
For this layout I began by choosing four of the papers from Owl Tree Studio's Beach Breeze digital kit and then I layered on the wave image with different degrees of transparency. I knew I wanted to create a grid effect and that my layout was about the sun always shining (at least metaphorically) so I used the sun embellishment to create movement and a grid. I then printed it out and mounted it onto the card for the journal.

I then printed and cut out my photos and stuck them on. Using inspiration from the kit I added yellow buttons on top. I then created a mini journalling booklet using the labels from the kit, cut them out and layered up with brads. I used the cloud, a sun and journalling for title and again printed and cut out.

I felt the layout was still lacking something so I used Sakura jelly roll pens to draw round the suns and to highlight the waves, taking it onto card below.

Finally I added some dolphin and starfish charms that I have had in my stash forever.

Original digital layout that was just too plain when I printed it out so I got...

my lovely but holey embroidered linen shirt

I was ironing one of my favourite shirts today when I noticed that the linen had frayed under the arm to create a big hole rendering my shirt unwearable. I was very upset as I have loved this shirt and it has lasted many years which is why it's no surprise it was was falling apart. I had also created a digital lo for my oxford album using one big photograph that I matted onto two pieces of paper and then added a digital swirl stamp and some journaling. When I printed the layout I just didn't feel it was right and then I realised the shirt would be perfect if I could make myself cut it up...

I carefully cut round an embroidered piece but...

Laying it beside my layout it look wrong so...

I realised that all that pintuck and button detail made great edging and I didn't even have to sew all the buttons on!

The finished layout, much better I think but now what am I going to do with...

All the bits I cut out and the others bits and... I'm sure I'll think of something and let you see it.

Inspiring LOs - from butterflies to cats to dragonflies.

I owe the inspiration for this page to DaphneW and  Anesha This page appears quite simple but took lots of work. I started with a DCWV paper from the all about girls range. The centre of this was lined like a notebook but I didn't want that so I cut out the centre and then tore and inked the edges. I wanted a particular soft turquoise for the background and didn't have anything suitable so I found plain cream card stock and applied layers of cobalt blue watercolour washes. I will photograph this is the daylight and these details will be more obvious. The photo is mounted on turquoise card stock and then another DCWV paper with lots of writing on it (which does not show here). I added a row of butterflies on acetate at the bottom and printed out various other butterfly images onto acetate. The butterfly at bottom is made from three pieces of sea glass found on our favourite beach stuck to a piece of capiz from an old light. Buttons make up the dragonflies body whilst the wings are made from acetates I cut out and coloured with pro markers. This is my new favourite LO. The journalling explains the link between the photo, title and bugs.

It Takes Two

Lens Guy and youngest do the tango. I had hours of fun painting the chipboard letters for "Takes" and spraying them with glimmer mists. The letters for "two" were a boring black rubber so I painted them blue. I like how some of the paint stayed over the edges to make them more messy. I had to sew some buttons and hoops on. I also spent ages highlighting the scallop edge at bottom with stitching. The layout was in response to sketch in the scrapbook magazine issue 43.
